Moscow. The police have arrested a group of ultra-right youths suspected of killing at least 17 foreigners. They are not the only racist hit squad in Moscow.
Tbilisi. Are Georgias latest Rose revolutionaries a Kremlin plant? The state attorney at least has started prosecuting three opposition politicians on charges of espionage. In Tbilisi the state of emergency looks set to be prolonged.
André Ballin, Moscow. The October Revolution is turning 90 years old, but nobodys throwing a party. Two years ago, the 7th November was relegated to a normal working day. But it remains an important date.
Tbilisi. New low in Russia-Georgian relations: After a skirmish between Russian UN peacekeepers and Georgian policemen, President Saakashvili is threatening to expel the peacekeepers from Georgia.
Moscow. The so-called chessboard murderer from Moscows Bizevsky Park, Alexander Pitshushkin, has been sentenced to life imprisonment and compulsory psychotherapy. Pitshushkin was found guilty on 48 counts of murder.
Moscow. The corpse of a young man, who obviously fell from the wheel well of a plane, has been found in woods near Moscow. His identity, as well as the flight he fell from, have yet to be established.
Moscow. It was a huge shock. There was hardly a family in Moscow who did not know someone in that theatre. An audience of 912 had fallen into the clutches of around 41 terrorists, only a couple of miles away from the Kremlin.

Moscow. Putin warned the USA in Moscow against pushing ahead with the anti-missile shield. The talks ended without any agreement. Russia is considering withdrawing from another arms control treaty.
Tbilisi. Fresh twist in Georgian power struggle: Georgias former defence minister Okruashvili has been released on bail of 4 million euros, after he retracted accusations of murder against President Saakashvili.
Moscow. The Russian State Prosecutors Office has declared that the murder of investigative journalist Anna Politkovskaya has been solved. Those who carried out, and those who organised the murder have already been arrested.
Moscow. It was hardly a surprise when Putin declared he would head the United Russia party list, and then consider becoming Prime Minister under another president.
Tbilisi. Former Georgian defence minister Irakli Okruashvili has levelled murder charges at President Saakashvili. He has publicly charged the latter with ordering a number of murders and plotting the invasion of South Ossetia. Okruashvili was subsequently arrested on treason charges.
Moscow. More and more grisly details are emerging during the trial of the serial killer Pitshushkin: The Maniac of Bizevski Park conducted experiments on his victims. He tortured them with a home-made gun and wooden stakes.
André Ballin, Moscow. Chernobyl became a household name. But fifty years ago in the Soviet Union, there was another nuclear disaster that is rarely remembered today. The disaster of Mayak was kept secret until 1989.
Moscow. Viktor Zubkov has been elected prime minister of Russia by the Duma. In an address to the Duma, he declared the fight against corruption to be his governments priority.
Nasran. In the course of the summer, a total of 40 terrorist attacks have been comitted in Ingushetia. The terror has targeted Russians in particular. Troop reinforcements have not brought about any increase in stability. The FSB sees Al Qaida as being behind the attacks.
St. Petersburg. For many years, he was regarded as the Godfather of Petersburg. Now Vladimir Barsukov has been detained and brought to Moscow for questioning. He is accused of extortion and of having ordering a contract killing.
Moscow. The Defence Ministrys 12th directorate, responsible for guarding Russias nuclear arsenal, has turned 60 years old. The Russian Orthodox Church bestowed its blessing on the WMD guards at a service.
