Moscow has the most expensive hotels in Europe
Moscow. The Russian capital remains an expensive place, especially for visitors. According to research, Moscow is the most expensive capital in Europe with regards to hotel prices - partially to blame is a price jump last autumn.

The hotel price barometer was created by a German hotel booking web site, hotel.info. It shows that the average overnight stay in Moscow lies at €183,78 (data from November 2011). This is an increase of almost 10 percent compared to the previous year.

In second place is the Norwegian capital of Oslo at €170.89 and in third place the British capital of London at €159.83, where the overnight stay increased by more than 5 percent.

Kiev surprisingly expensive
Kiev is surprisingly expensive according to the study. An overnight stay in the by the economic crises troubled capital city of the Ukraine costs around €136.60. Thus Kiev lies on 5th place in the ratings.
The real estate agency IRN explains the high price level in Moscow is due to the still existing deficit of hotels. Especially at the middle range hotels there seems to be still a high demand while in the five star category there is almost a surplus.

Five-star hotels in abundance
Close to the Kremlin there are the luxury hotels Baltschung-Kepinski, National, Metropol, Ritz-Carlton, Hyatt and Savoy. In the nearest future the, by the Austrian construction group Strabag, rebuilt hotel 'Moscva' will reopen. Strabag has been awarded a second contract to build another luxury hotel on the Moscva River, opposite the Kremlin.

The Moscow city government wants to bring prices down through a hotel building program: "The Moscow Architect Committee is working on a scheme on the distribution of hotels in Moscow. It is supposed to be in place by the first quarter of 2012, explained the head of the Moscow Investment Committee, Konstantin Timofeyev.

Moscow is hoping for 20 million tourists
According to Timofeyev, the city government wants to increase the number of visitors to 20 million by 2025 which would be four times the current number of tourists. "The program for the development of the tourist industry includes the building of 177 hotels with more than 50,000 rooms, added Timofeyev. Currently hotels have only a capacity of up to 46,000 rooms.

The efforts are aimed in particular at the completion of hotels in the Economy class. This would mean that over the next few years more three star hotels should become available for the tourist market.
